Sodium-sulfur (NaS) batteries are high-energy, high-temperature rechargeable batteries that utilize liquid sodium as the anode and liquid sulfur as the cathode, typically operating at temperatures around 300–350°C to maintain the materials in a molten state. The battery is housed in a ceramic container that also serves as a solid electrolyte, allowing only sodium ions to pass through while separating the reactive materials. Known for their high energy density (typically around 150–240 Wh/kg) and long cycle life, sodium-sulfur batteries are especially suitable for grid-scale energy storage applications, where stable and large-scale power delivery is critical.
